They say that “youth will be served”, but on Thursday night the youth served up a win for the Redskin wrestling team, as they won their third Western Buckeye League match in as many tries, a convincing 54-25 win over Shawnee.
Due to injuries and illness, Wapak put six freshmen in their starting lineup and three of them recorded pins, while another first-year wrestler, a junior, also pinned his man to pace the home team’s scoring.
“We had a lot of young guys coming through for us,” said head coach Jason Rostorfer. “The guys understand that even if you’re not in the starting lineup, you are just one injury away from having to wrestle varsity. So the fact that these young guys came out and got those wins for us is a testament to how hard they work in practice.”
