The next generation of government leaders is being shaped in Wapakoneta through the Ohio YMCA Youth in Government program.

Students from Wapakoneta Middle School traveled to the state capitol in Columbus last week for the first ever middle school Youth in Government conference in the state of Ohio.

Fisher said seven seventh-graders from Wapakoneta Middle School participated in the conference from Nov. 22 to 24 and acted as state legislators by creating and discussing bills, as well as electing a Youth Governor.

Fisher expressed the exciting news that Wapakoneta seventh-grader Taylor Schneider was elected the first Youth Governor for the state of Ohio for next year’s conference. In addition, Fisher mentioned that seventh-grader Bradley Hicks was honored with an award as one of the conference’s best speakers.

See Tuesday's print edition of the Wapakoneta Daily News for the full story.
