The journey is underway.
The Waynesfield-Goshen girls overcame a slow start and recorded a 48-37 win over Parkway in a Division IV sectional contest on Tuesday.
The Lady Tigers, now 9-14 on the year, were led by senior guard Kayla Wicker, who racked up 28 points on the night.
Waynesfield-Goshen trailed early on, but stepped up the pressure in the second quarter, and took a one-point lead, 22-21, at the half. They then extended and maintained that lead for the rest of the contest.
Coach Nathan Swaney of Waynesfield-Goshen said, "We were a little nervous at the beginning, but got calmed down. We were settling for outside shots, and that's not really our game."
He said that from the second quarter on, "(Our) pressure picked up, and the energy picked up. We forced them to go man (on defense)."
Besides Wicker, Jordan Elliott had eight points and Rylie Barrington had six.
