The Wapakoneta wrestling team rolled to yet another dominating win in Western Buckeye League action on Thursday night, recording six pins and a technical fall in defeating the Elida Bulldogs 59-24 to improve their loop mark to 6-0.
“We are a young team, with only one senior wrestler,” said Wapakoneta coach Jason Rostorfer, “but the underclassmen, they are going out getting varsity matches, and getting wins, and that’s what it’s all about. The lumps they’ve taken are paying off now. We’re trending upward.”
Wapakoneta lead 24-18 after the first few matches.
True to the form they have shown most of the year, Wapakoneta’s mighty mites won the next four matches in convincing fashion to give their team an almost uncatchable lead.
Colin Mellott notched his 11th pin of the year at 106 pounds over Dylan Mans, followed by another pin from Bryce Knapke, of Zach Nelms, his 14th pin of his 15 wins. Elida’s Isaac Fredericks was the victim of freshman Nate Roa's pin at 120 pounds for his fourth straight WBL win, and sophomore Gavin Hall competed the four match sweep with an impressive 20-5 technical fall of James Sperry,. That put the Redskins ahead big, 47-18.
