After several days of waiting, Wapakoneta finally saw some action — and provided plenty of its own.
The Lady Redskins defeated Ottawa-Glandorf 20-4 in five innings in their first home game and first Western Buckeye League game of the season.
Wapakoneta, now 2-1 on the season, dealt with the chilly conditions by keeping warm as they ran around the bases.
Coach Bill Sammons said, “We really took a step forward today. The girls started to play 100 percent every pitch.”
He added that “they weren’t afraid to make mistakes. In the scrimmages and early games, we were walking on eggshells. We’ll just continue to go hard and get better.”
Alex Daum got the victory for Wapakoneta. In five innings, she allowed four runs on four hits. She struck out six and did not issue a walk.
Center fielder Savannah Oen collected four hits on the day, including a double and had four RBIs. Audrey Coil had three hits, including a triple, and scored three runs. Grace Jolly, Daum, Taylor West, and Kaylee Huggins all had multiple hits, with two RBIs for Huggins. Mallory Lilles had a triple and drove in four runs.
