PIQUA — This alternate ending proved to be the final chapter.
The Wapakoneta football season finally came to an end on Friday, as they fell 21-7 to Archbishop Alter in the Region 12 championship at Alexander Field.
The Knights (12-1) were able to withstand some initial charges by the Redskins, and took a 7-0 lead at the half.
Alter added a touchdown on the opening drive of the third quarter, then scored again in the final period. Wapakoneta strung together a late scoring drive, but the hill after that was too steep.
The Redskins finish their season with an 11-2 record, which included a share of the Western Buckeye League title, and wins over rival St. Marys in the regular season finale and longtime playoff nemesis Trotwood-Madison one week later.
