They couldn't defy the odds this time.
Wapakoneta showed some flashes, but a second-half dry spell proved costly as they lost 46-35 to Defiance in a Division II sectional final on Friday.
The Redskins end the season with a record of 8-16.
After Defiance took the lead in the first, a barrage of three-pointers not only got the Redskins back in the game, it helped give them the lead at halftime.
That momentum failed to carry over, however, as they scored just two points in the third with the Bulldogs surging back in front. The fourth quarter was more balanced, but the Redskins couldn't quite make up the deficit.
Defiance advances to the district semifinal, where they will face Bryan. The Golden Bears knocked out St. Marys 46-39 in the second game of the evening.
