Figure on the team wearing red and white to do well.
Wapakoneta earned an impressive Valentine's Day victory on Friday, recording a 42-38 victory over Defiance in Western Buckeye League action on Friday night.
After an even first quarter, the Redskins fell behind by six at the half. They fought their way to the lead after three.
After expanding that lead a little, Wapakoneta used sharp shooting at the free throw line to secure victory. The Redskins made 12 free throws in the final 1:40 to stave off the Bulldogs.
Wapakoneta improves to 3-5 in league play and is now 7-12 overall.
Trey Ware and Noah Ambos each scored 14 points to drive the Wapakoneta offense.
For Defiance, Tyler Goings had 19 points.
"It's a good win for us," said Wapakoneta coach Doug Davis. "We showed patience on offense, and defended them well."
He noted that the Redskins were able to limit Will Lammers of the Bulldogs to just seven points on the night.
Wapakoneta will be back in action on Saturday against Coldwater, and Tuesday when they face Marion Local. Both games are at home and start at 6 p.m. with JV action.
