The Wapakoneta Redskins and the Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers will be in different regions for the 2016 football season but only because two regions were added to Division I, meaning nearly every school in the state outside of Division I had its regional number increase by two.

For the 2016 season, Wapakoneta will be in Division III, Region 12, while Waynesfield-Goshen is now in Division VII, Region 28.

Last season the Redskins were in Region 10, grouped with teams from southwest Ohio.

In 2015 the Tigers were in Region 26, which also consisted of schools from that part of the state.

The change in their regions is due to Division I going from two to four regions, a change approved in April by the Ohio High School Athletic Association Board of Directors, citing a desired reduction in travel and having the division's regional championship game the same weekend as the other six divisions.

The OHSAA also announced Wednesday the playoffs format for 2016.

In the first four rounds of the playoffs, games in Divisions I, II, IV and VI will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, while games in Divisions III, V and VII will be played at 7 p.m. Saturday, so Wapakoneta and Waynesfield-Goshen will play their postseason games on Saturdays this fall if they qualify for the playoffs.

The OHSAA released Wednesday its regional alignments and playoffs format, after its board of directors approved tournament regulations for the coming fall season.
