Shane Wireman was hired Monday night as the new head varsity football coach at Waynesfield-Goshen High School, as the board of education approved a supplemental contract for him during its regular monthly meeting.

Wireman — a first-year math teacher at Waynesfield-Goshen — replaces Tyler Turner, whose resignation was approved at the meeting Monday.

Wireman, 27, is a 2007 graduate of Allen East High School, where he coached at the junior high and high school levels. He was a volunteer coach in the Waynesfield-Goshen program last season.

Turner — a Waynesfield-Goshen graduate — had a record of 3-17 in two seasons with the Tigers, who went 0-10 record last year in the school's first winless season since 1990.
