DELPHOS — Opening night was a crowd pleaser.
The Wapakoneta boys opened the 2018-19 season Friday night by taking the stage at Jefferson, and rolling to a 62-31 nonleague victory.
The Redskins (1-0) were up nine after one period, then seized control in the second, holding Jefferson to a single 3-point basket. The lead further expanded in the third, before the Redskins eased things down and cruised to the finish.
Senior big man Adam Scott led the offense with 27 points on the night, racking that up in three quarters. Aaron Good had 12 points.
Coach Doug Davis, who began his head coaching career at Jefferson, was pleased with the outcome. "I'm happy with the way we played hard, the way we played defense," he said. "We kept playing well, shared the ball, and got some good looks."
He explained that the team used a motion offense the entire game, rather than set plays, since the team is still adjusting from the short turnaround after the football team's playoff run.
The Redskins dominated the boards, outrebounding the Wildcats 42-22.
