NORWALK — The Wapakoneta wrestling team ended a highly successful district tournament effort on Saturday. The Redskins took six to Norwalk, won an individual championship, and advanced four to the state tournament this weekend in Columbus.
“We talked about our goals all season long,” said Wapakoneta head coach Jason Rostorfer. “WBL championship and then focus on individuals advancing on to state. We have banners hung in our room of our state qualifiers, so these guys know daily the kind of emphasis we put on it. Having four qualifiers is a pretty big accomplishment.”
Qualifiers included heavyweight Brenan Knueve, Trevor Plaugher at 195, Luke Beach at 138, and Collin Mellot at 106 pounds.
The state tournament gets underway on Thursday at Schottenstein Center.
