VAN WERT — Some big "D" led the Redskins to another "W."
The Wapakoneta defense stepped up at several points on Friday, with the offense doing enough to grind out a 13-7 win over Van Wert at Eggerss Stadium.
The Redskins move to 3-0 overall, and 2-0 in Western Buckeye League play.
Facing a Van Wert offense that spent most of the night operating in the shotgun, and using the passing attack to move the ball, Wapakoneta defenders intercepted Owen Treece four times.
The one by Garrett Siefring in the third quarter led what proved to be the winning drive, with Evan Kaeck scoring on a 3-yard run.
After Van Wert cut the lead to seven with a long pass reception and Wapakaoneta punted, junior Trevor Crow picked off a pass in the end zone with three minutes to go, effectively clinching the victory.
The two in the first half were by Devin Huelskamp and Noah Ambos.
