In a low-scoring game, the Wapakoneta Redskins withstood a late rally by the St. Mary Roughriders to win 37-33 for their third straight sectional title.

The Redskins led by 12 points, 28-16, entering the fourth quarter, during which the Roughriders nearly matched their total for the game with 15 points. Wapakoneta scored nine in the period, the last seven on free throws with five from Maddi Stiles.

The Redskins took the lead for good on a Riley Culver buzzer-beater to end the first quarter and led the rest of the way in one of the two high school girls basketball Division II sectional finals Saturday at Spencerville.

Bath won the first game of the night, defeating Kenton, so Wapakoneta and Bath will meet at 6:15 p.m. Thursday in a district semifinal at Paulding High School.

Bath has won five straight district titles, including the last two against Wapakoneta at Paulding.

The Redskins' win Saturday was their 19th of the season, moving them into second place all time in school history for most in a single season, trailing only the 2008-09 team that won 25 games and finished as the state runner-up.
