Quarter auction benefits DWP funds

A local organization will be hosting an event, which is open to the community, to raise funds to help beautify downtown Wapakoneta.
A quarter auction, sponsored by the Downtown Wapakoneta Partnership, is scheduled for Oct. 13 at Marley’s Downtown.
Food and preview will begin at 5:45 p.m. and will feature a pasta buffet and salad available until 7 p.m. in the ballroom on the second floor of the building. The auction is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and a cash bar and snacks are available all evening.
“After I hosted one for the Riverside Art Center, we had a good turnout and the Downtown Wapakoneta Partnership contacted me and asked if I would help them host one,” organizer Pam Miner said.
A similar event, held to celebrate Cinco de Mayo and raise money for the Riverside Art Center, brought in an estimated $1,500 for the organization, and this sparked the interest of members of the Downtown Wapakoneta Partnership.
“After they attended the quarter auction, they thought it was fun and wanted to have one of their own and raise funds for their organization,” Miner said.
All of the proceeds are directed to the Decorative Arts Committee of the Downtown Wapakoneta Partnership, to help beautify downtown Wapakoneta.
“The Decorative Arts Committee decorates the streets downtown for Christmas, plants flowers in the spring and helps keep downtown clean,” Miner said.
There are more than 70 items to be auctioned off from local vendors who sponsored items, including Yellow Cat, Bella Mia, Close to My Heart, Tastefully Simple, Casa Chic, Tupperware, Avon, Mary Kay, Gold Canyon Candles, Lia Sophia, Pampered Chef, Thirty One, Scentsy, Fark Photography and Downtown Wapakoneta Partnership.
People can purchase their bidding paddles at the door for $2, and they can buy up to three paddles, which will be used to bid on items using quarters.
“I’ve tried to pull together local consultants from the county to help their business,” Miner said.
These local consultants also will be available the evening of the auction to answer questions and have catalogs available.
“With the holidays coming up, this will help with getting new ideas for gifts,” Miner said.
