Local man treats dogs to guitar concerts

When Garrett Wilcox walks into the Auglaize County Humane Society, the dogs take notice.

Wilcox, who works at Cloud Nine Cafe in downtown Wapakoneta, visits the shelter once or twice a week with his guitar in hand, and treats the dogs to some music.

Sitting out between the kennels, Wilcox gently strums his guitar and sings for the dogs. And they listen.

"They know that it's just quiet. It's like their nap time," Wilcox said. "They love doing it. They go to sleep, fall asleep to the music and don't bark. They calm down."

Wilcox, who plays Christian music, will often play for around twenty minutes inside the shelter, and then head out to the barn to play for the larger dogs.
