Lady Redskins win opener

The Wapakoneta softball team opened its 2018 season with a solid 12-8 win over Spencerville in nonleague action on Monday.
The Lady Redskins (1-0) overcame an early deficit to get the win. After scoring three times in their first at-bat, Wapakoneta gave up six runs in the first and two in the second.
But they would hold the Lady Bearcats scoreless after that. Meanwhile, they scored four runs in the third and four in the fifth, then tacked on a run in the sixth.
Alex Daum got the win in relief, pitching six innings. She allowed two runs on seven hits, struck out six and walked none.
Starter Grace Jolly allowed six runs on three hits, with two walks and two strikeouts.
For Spencerville, Julie Mullholland, went the distance. She allowed 12 runs and 11 hits, with six walks and six strikeouts.
Offensively, Savannah Oen had a three-run homer in the fifth inning that broke an 8-all tie. Oen also had a double.
Mallory Liles had a double and triple, and Alyssa Camper had a double. Oen and Lilles had three RBIs each, Taylor West had two, while Jolly and Audrey Coil had one each.
