WAPAKONETA — The first win is proving elusive.
A slow start and offensive struggles in the first half proved costly as Wapakoneta fell to Marion Local 47-38 in nonleague girls basketball on Tuesday.
The Lady Redskins dropped to 0-5 on the season. They trailed by 18 at the half before staging a rally in the third and fourth quarter, but wound up on the short end.
Makenzie Wilson had 10 points for the Lady Redskins, Kassi Saunders had eight, and Taylor Jenkins put in seven. Wilson collected eight rebounds and Katie Lisi grabbed six.
For the Lady Flyers (6-0), Heidi Rethman led with 15 points, and Alana Pohlman had 11.
"(Marion Local) pretty much did what they wanted in the first half," said Wapakoneta coach Rusty Allen. "We didn't execute our game plan."
