Kenton rallies to stun Wapakoneta

The Kenton Wildcats overcame an 11-point deficit with less than 4 minutes left in the fourth quarter, outscoring the undefeated Wapakoneta Redskins 21-7 in the final period to record a stunning win, 46-43, in Western Buckeye League varsity girls basketball action Thursday.

Trailing 42-31 with 3:48 to play, the Wildcats used a full-court defense to keep the Redskins' offense in check, as Wapakoneta did not score a field goal in the fourth quarter.

Kori Barrett hit two free throws to give Kenton the lead, 44-42, with 12.1 seconds left in regulation. Wapakoneta's Kasey Helmstetter missed the second of two free throws with 3.6 seconds on the fourth quarter clock, and the Wildcats (5-3, 2-1 WBL) rebounded the miss to secure the victory.

The game Thursday was the home opener for the Redskins (5-1, 2-1 WBL) after five straight road contests to begin the season.

Kenton's Layne Taylor scored all 11 of her points in the second half. Wapakoneta's Maddi Stiles led all scorers with 16 points.
