Issue 1 defeated; local issues pass

Auglaize County voters soundly defeated Issue 1, a proposed amendment to the Ohio Constitution that would have to made possession of all types of drugs misdemeanors in an effort to reduce the state prison population and divert savings to drug treatment.

Unofficial results from the county board of elections showed county voters rejected the measure 15,722 to 3,146; the measure was just as soundly defeated statewide.

Most judicial and law enforcement groups opposed the measure.


The mid-term election brought out 59.55 percent of the county’s registered voters without 28 percent of those voters casting an absentee ballot. Statewide, the Ohio Secretary of State's office says more than 1.3 million people voted ahead of Tuesday's election, far outpacing the number of votes cast early statewide four years ago.
