Former principal is board's top choice

Aaron Rex, former Wapakoneta High School principal, is the first choice to replace out-going district Superintendent Keith Horner.

Ron Mertz, board of education president, made the announcement Saturday morning, saying a formal motion will be made to the entire board during Tuesday’s meeting. The recommendation came from the committee charged with winnowing through the 21 applications for the superintendent post.

Mertz said the board met in executive session Thursday to consider the committee recommendation; on Friday, Mertz, board vice president Pat Gibson and district treasurer Angie Sparks spoke with Rex to present a tentative contract. Mertz said Rex is excited to come back to Wapakoneta, assuming he gets the blessing of the full board.
