The varsity football game scheduled Friday between Wapakoneta and Shawnee was postponed until 10 a.m. Saturday and was also relocated from Shawnee's stadium to Harmon Field in Wapakoneta.

The game was supposed to start at 7 p.m. Friday, but several weather delays ultimately forced the postponement, which was announced via the stadium's public address system just before 8:20 p.m Friday.

No reason was announced on the PA about why the game was postponed nor why it was relocated.

In a phone call Friday night, Wapakoneta athletic director Brad Rex said game officials basically established a 9 p.m. deadline to start the game.

Once the time to take the field for warmups and begin the game had passed, the decision to postpone the game was made.

Rex also said one main factor in the postponement was that Shawnee felt its field conditions were questionable due to rain earlier Friday afternoon as well as Friday evening. Plus, the Indians played a home game the previous Friday, already creating some deterioration prior the scheduled game Friday with Wapakoneta.

Also, Rex said that another factor in the postponement was the players sitting idle in the locker rooms for almost two straight hours, waiting for the game to begin.

Admission will not be charged Saturday morning, and concession stands will be operated, with the Wapakoneta band boosters getting commission on sales.

The junior varsity game between Wapakoneta and Shawnee scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday has been canceled. Wapakoneta's freshman game at Troy scheduled for 10 a.m. has also been canceled.

Wapakoneta's marching band will not be in attendance Saturday, Rex said.
