Botkins proved it could hold the Tigers.
The Lady Trojans recorded a 40-36 win over visiting Jackson Center on Thursday. It is the first Shelby County League win of the year, and the first for coach Phil Groves.
Botkins improves to 5-4 overall and 1-4 in SCAL action.
Boston Paul led the offense with 15 points of the night, including seven of the team's nine in the fourth quarter. The rest of the offense was spread out, with five players having between four and six points.
"Everybody contributed. It was a good team effort," said Coach Groves. He noted that Paul "hit some big shots in the second half."
The contest was close throughout, with Botkins maintaining a small advantage for most of the night. In the late going, Botkins worked the ball around to run time off the clock and preserve its lead. "We emphasized being patient and making good decisions with the ball," said Groves.
For the Lady Tigers, Ashley Mullenhour had 13 points and Katie Sosby had 11.
