Award-winning band set to play in Wapakoneta venue

Moon City Music and Event Center will be playing host to one of the bluegrass music scene's up and coming bands.

New County Grass, based out of the Flint, Michigan area, will be making a stop at the Wapakoneta venue on Friday night, fresh off their win at the Burr Oak Bluegrass Weekend Band Competition in Glouster, Ohio.

Lori Lambert, owner of Moon City, is excited to have the recent winners in town, who walked away from the Burr Oak contest with a pretty valuable prize.

"They're awesome musicians and just won this contest in southeastern Ohio," she said, "and their prize was to record with Clay Hess."

Hess, now a music producer with a studio in Ohio, once played in the backing band for Country Music Hall of Famer Ricky Skaggs.

And that prize came at a time when the family band, made up of Kyle, Duane, and Brent Estep, and Dean Dubois, is starting to make big strides.

"They've got the CD done and are shopping for labels right now," Lambert said. "It's just really good music, and they've always been recognized...
