Astronaut to be remembered with statue

Neil Armstrong will always be a permanent fixture in Wapakoneta, but pretty soon, he’ll literally be a permanent fixture in Wapakoneta.

On Friday afternoon, Westerville, Ohio based sculptor Michael Tizzano made the trek from the Columbus suburb to the Armstrong Air and Space Museum, to take the first steps in sculpting a life size bronze statue of Armstrong.

When completed, the statue commemorating Armstrong’s homecoming parade following the first moon landing in 1969, will likely be placed in downtown Wapakoneta.
