Celina gets past Wapakoneta in overtime

ELIDA — As the game wore on, the Wapakoneta Redskins held down Bekah Carr and Alyssa Cisco long enough to score a tying goal in regulation.

But the Celina Bulldogs duo began to gain steam again at the start of overtime, enough to start getting scoring opportunities.

ELIDA — The Celina Bulldogs had Wapakoneta’s number in 2014, as the Bulldogs prevented the Wapakoneta Redskins from winning the Western Buckeye League title outright and they ended Wapakoneta’s time in the postseason Monday.

During a game with a slight rain present to start, causing muddy field conditions, Celina was one step ahead of the Redskins all game long in a 5-2 victory in a high school boys soccer Division II district semifinal at Elida Middle School.

WAYNESFIELD — All season, Waynesfield-Goshen's varsity coach Tyler Turner has said his team is capable of playing better, that they are just as good as opponents such as Mechanicsburg and Upper Scioto Valley. That their best football is ahead of them after losing to a winless Perry team. He was also confident in Friday's game against a talented Riverside team.
