Wapakoneta outlasts Shawnee in 9 innings

The only walk of the game was basically intentional. It loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, put the Wapakoneta Redskins’ best hitter Renee Lovett on base and brought a struggling Redskins sophomore Sierra Sammons to the plate.

Sammons, who was 0 for 4 until that point, sliced a grounder to shortstop which was bobbled, allowing Bridgitte Weaks to score from third, giving Wapakoneta a 2-1 win Friday in nine innings over the Shawnee Indians in a Western Buckeye League varsity softball contest.

Despite being the visiting team on their home field, a patient Wapakoneta Redskins team rallied for a 7-2 victory Friday over the Shawnee Indians in a Western Buckeye League varsity baseball contest held at Wapakoneta High School.

The game was supposed to be held at Shawnee High School but was moved due to wet field conditions.

Wapakoneta starting pitcher Kodi Morgan dueled with Shawnee starting pitcher Zach Peake but, in the end, Morgan picked up the win en route to a complete game.

Early runs lead Wapakoneta to win over New Bremen

April 11, 2014

The Wapakoneta Redskins jumped out to an 8-0 lead after two innings and never looked back in a 10-4 win Thursday over the New Bremen Cardinals.

The Redskins scored three runs in the first inning and five in the second to help cushion themselves in a matchup of two young rosters in non-league varsity softball action at Wapakoneta High School.

Wapak (5-0) was helped by two New Bremen errors in the first inning and had three hits of its own, including a two-run double by Alexis Schwartz, who now has an extra-base hit in every game this season.
