William M. ‘Bud’ Striff Jr., 93, of Wapakoneta, died at 8:32 a.m. Wednes-
day, July 31, 2013, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
He was born Sept. 2, 1919, in Lima, to Garnett (O’Conner) and William Merle Striff, who preceded him in death. He married Mary Margaret Thomas on June 9, 1946, and she preceded him in death July 12, 2000.
Mr. Striff had been a Standard Oil distributor and retired from Ohio Department of Transportation. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II, C Battery, 11th Field Artillery, 24th Division, having served in New Guinea and the South Pacific as a 50-caliber machine gunner and a 155-caliber Howitzer gunner. He was a member of Spencerville American Legion, Post 191 and the VFW Post 8445 of Wapakoneta and a former member of Rousculp Church of Christ. Bud enjoyed woodworking, camping, boating, gambling, traveling, swimming and being with family.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda (Gary Igo, dec.) Welker, of Lima, and Debbie (Rodney) Hopkins, of Uniopolis; three grandchildren, Tonia Cotrell, Christina (Jason) Stombaugh and Jason (Ciara) Hopkins; three great-grandsons, Cory Cotrell, Austin Cotrell and Hunter Stombaugh; a step-great-grandson, Cole Stombaugh; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tina Hopkins three brothers, Richard, Robert and Davey Striff; and a sister, Louise King.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 6 p.m., Sunday at Bayliff and Son Funeral Home in Cridersville.
Services are at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Shawnee Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by Spencerville American Legion and VFW joint honor guard.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Cridersville Fire Department.
