NEW BREMEN — Superintendent Ann Harvey will be leaving the district at the end of the month, as she accepted a position as Auglaize County Educational Service Center superintendent Thursday night.
Harvey said she anticipates her last day in New Bremen to be Sept. 30, and she will begin work at the Auglaize County ESC in early October.
She remarked she is looking forward to the challenge.
“I think it’s going to be a wonderful new challenge,” Harvey said. “The job is different from being the superintendent of a local school, but actually the experience of being a local who purchased services from the ESC will give me a good background for beginning work at the ESC.”
As superintendent, Harvey’s duties include helping the Auglaize County ESC coordinate and provide shared services for area school districts.
“The ESC provides a multitude of services to school districts,” Harvey said. “We’re in a position where the more services we can share, the more beneficial it is financially for the local districts.”
She noted that her experience as the superintendent at New Bremen Local Schools should

help her in her new position.
“New Bremen Local Schools is one of the districts that purchases services from the Auglaize County ESC, so I have an understanding of the many services that would be offered,” Harvey said. “I have an understanding of how the billing works.”
She noted she also is familiar with the staff at the Auglaize County ESC.
“I’ve worked with many employees of the ESC, so I know their directors, I know their secretaries, I know their special services personnel,” Harvey said. “I have a lot of familiarity with how the ESC works.”
New Bremen Board of Education members are now quickly tasked with finding a replacement for Harvey.
Harvey said the board is to discuss its plans at a special meeting Wednesday. The district also is in the process of reviewing plans regarding the renovation of the current elementary school or construction of a new elementary school.
“The New Bremen school board will be talking with some potential interim superintendents,” Harvey said. “We have a special board meeting on Sept. 21, so they will be further talking about their plans that evening.”
She said she has enjoyed her time in New Bremen.
“I loved coming to work here every day,” Harvey said. “It’s a fabulous district. The most enjoyable part has been working with the students, the staff and the Board of Education and getting to know the community members.”
Harvey noted that the people of the district made her experience.
“It’s really the people that have made this school district such a special place,” Harvey said. “I am very fortunate to have had the opportunity to have worked with the New Bremen Local Schools.”
Harvey will succeed Jim Herrholtz, who is leaving to take a position with the Ohio Department of Education.
