WG boys win league championship

WAYNESFIELD —  The Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers varsity boys track team held off the Fairbanks Panthers in an exciting finish at the Northwest Central Conference  track meet.

The Tigers had a team score of 172, while the second place Panthers posted a 167.

W-G’s Eli O’Leary and Drew Lament shared the meet MVP title.

Lament took first in the boys pole vault, third in the 100-meter hurdles, third in the 300-meter hurdles and second in the high jump.

O’Leary took first in the 1600-meter run, first in the 3200-meter run, second in the 800-meter run and fifth in the pole vault.

The Tiger girls came up four points short of capturing a league title, falling short of the Upper Scioto Valley Rams.

The Tigers finished with 116 points, while the Rams, led by the meet’s MVP Brittany Holbrook, grabbed 120 points.

The seventh and eighth grade boys team took third place, behind Fairbanks and USV.

The seventh and eighth grade girls team took second, behind the Panthers of Fairbanks.
