Wapakoneta's Zofkie wins night meet

Allie Zofkie handily won the Wapakoneta Night Meet as the host Redskins’ freshman finished 1 minute, 8.6 seconds ahead of the next runner with a time of 19:47.7 on Saturday night at Veterans Memorial Park.

The race, which started at 8:45 p.m., was Zofkie’s second straight individual victory following a win on Aug. 20 in the Auglaize County Invitational.

The Redskins placed fourth out of nine schools with 98 points.

Finishing second for Wapak was Sydney Sutton, who was the fourth overall runner with a time of 21:29.7.

Rounding out Wapak’s scoring five were Morgan Miller (33rd; 24:30.1), Megan Watt (36th; 24:41.7) and Courtney Mosgrove (44th; 25:16.4).

Wapak’s top seven also included Sydni Turner (49th; 25:28.9) and Nicole King (51st; 25:32.0).

The Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers were ninth at 222 points.

At 29th overall, Mackenzie Braden was W-G’s top runner with a time of 23:36.0.

Jonnell Case was 52nd (25:33.6). Completing the Tigers’ scoring were Jadelyn Hennon (72nd; 27:53.6), Maxine Wilson (74th; 27:58.7) and Jenna Crawford (80th; 28:28.7).

St. Marys was the meet’s team champion with 45 points. Defiance was runner-up, and Elida took fifth.

Wapak boys 3rd; Plaugher finishes 6th

The Redskins’ boys team placed comfortably in third place Saturday night, capping the meet with a 9:15 p.m. start in complete darkness.

Wapak’s top finisher was Dylan Plaugher, who ran a time of 17:41.1 to place sixth overall.

Will Zofkie was 14th overall at 18:20.7, while Sam Harrod followed at 18:32.5 for 18th.

Finishing the Redskins’ scoring were Alec Benny (24th; 18:41.2) and Hayden Brandehoff (33rd; 19:02.9). Placing in Wapak’s top seven were Dan Reichenbach (35th; 19:05.8) and Sam Bowers (38th; 19:35.6).

Waynesfield-Goshen was seventh Saturday with 191 points.

The Tigers’ top finisher was Jordan Crawford with a time of 19:47.3 in 46th place, with Stephen Hayes coming in 49th at 19:59.8.

Completing W-G’s scoring were Matt Motter (57th; 20:19.0), Levi Miller (70th; 20:36.3) and Jeron Henon (72nd; 20:40.9).
