Wapakoneta's Zofkie top singles seed at sectionals

Statewide sectional tournament draws were held Sunday for the start of the Ohio High School Athletic Association girls tennis individual state championships.

The Wapakoneta Redskins will be participating in the Division I Northwest District sectional tournament Oct. 3 and 5 at Findlay.

Wapakoneta freshman Allie Zofkie is the first overall seed in the singles bracket.

Zofkie, who is undefeated as of Monday, will play Perrysburg freshman Nora Abdul-Aziz for her first match in the round of 16.

Also for the Redskins, Rachel Roberts and Kaitlin Snider will start in the round of 32.

Roberts will face Bowling Green senior Erin Graves, while Snider will face Marion Harding sophomore Ashley Russell.

For Wapak in the doubles bracket, Kiersten Wellons and Chelsea Myers received a bye into the quarterfinals, while Carly Buzzard and Amanda Sims will face Bowling Green seniors Elizabeth Gerken and Taylor DeSmith in the round of 16.
