Mya Hager will have another three-plus seasons to break the school record she broke Thursday, as the Wapakoneta Redskins freshman set a new mark in the 100-yard breaststroke.
With a time of 1 minute, 12.79 seconds, Hager topped the previous mark of 1:13.40 set by Kimi Kentner in 2010.
Her new school record was set in Wapakoneta’s sweep of the St. Marys Roughriders and the Coldwater Cavaliers in a home tri-meet during girls high school swimming competition Thursday.
The Redskins beat St. Marys, 69-25, and crushed Coldwater, 76-18.
Wapak had the winning 200-yard medley relay team, which consisted of Haley Kinstle, Mya Hager, Taylor Hager and Summer Griner and their time of 2:05.02.
Josie Miller (25.71) and Mya Hager (27.74) took the top two spots in the 50 free.
Miller (56.12) also won the 100 free.
Taylor Law (1:04.52) and Sierra Sammons (1:11.47) held the first two places in the 100 butterfly.
Sierra Sammons won the 200 individual medley at 2:30.02.
Hannah Davis (6:15.95) took first in the 500 free.
Jordyn Law (1:07.82) and Haley Kinstle (1:10.07) occupied the first two spots in the 100 backstroke.
The Redskins claimed the top two places in the 400 free relay, as the winning team consisting of Sammons, Jordyn Law, Taylor Law and Miller finished the race in 3:58.32, while Kinstle, Davis, Julia
Pepple and Monica Metzger were second at 4:37.16.
Jordyn Law (2:11.35) placed second in the 200 free.
Taking second place behind Mya Hager’s new school record was her sister, Taylor, who finished with a time of 1:23.62.
Thursday’s meet was the final meet scheduled before the Western Buckeye League Championships begin next week in Defiance.
The diving competition will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, while the swimming portion will take place starting at 9 a.m. Friday.View more articles in:
