Wapakoneta Redskins sophomore Charlie Sutton set a school record in the 200-yard freestyle race Saturday. With a time of 1 minute, 52.91 seconds, Sutton broke the previous record of 1:53.77 set by Royce Kantner.
The new mark came during the Redskins’ third-place finish Saturday at the Celina Wapak Invitational in varsity boys swimming competition.
Wapak totaled 547.5 points, behind meet champion Ottawa-Glandorf (618) and runner-up Celina (582).
Representatives of the Western Buckeye League claimed the top five spots and eight of the top 10.
Sutton placed second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 57.67 seconds.
Hayden Metzger finished second in the 500 free at 5:29.74 and third in the 200 individual medley at 2:20.37.
Wesley Ruedebusch placed third in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2 minutes, 2.01 seconds and fifth in the 100 breaststoke at 1:11.19.
Sutton, Kaleb Miller, Reudebusch and Nick Steinke took third in the 200 free relay at 1:38.39.
Wapak’s quartet of Michael Zwez, Metzger, Ryan Schneider and Steinke placed fourth in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1 minute, 54.89 seconds.
Sutton, Zwez, Metzger and Ruedebusch grabbed fourth place in the 400 free relay at 3:36.89.
Zwez (1:05.60) took fifth in the 100 backstroke. Ruedebusch (1:11.19) finished fifth in the 100 breaststroke.
Schneider was seventh (1:01.33) in the 100 butterfly and eighth (1:06.32) in the 100 backstroke.
The Redskins will next compete Tuesday in a WBL dual meet against the Kenton Wildcats at the Hardin County Family YMCA.
