Hilary Bourne, Emily Klopfenstein and Megan Watt combined to set a new meet record Friday, as the Wapakoneta Redskins competed in the Redskin Relays in high school girls track and field action hosted by Wapakoneta High School at Harmon Field.

All three girls eclipsed 100 feet, as Bourne (113-08) placed second, Klopfenstein (107-9) was fifth and Watt (100-4) finished seventh.

Wapakoneta was the meet runner-up with 66 points behind fellow Western Buckeye League school Defiance (70). Also from the WBL, St. Marys (56) and Shawnee (46) finished third and fourth, respectively, while Ottawa-Glandorf (23) was eighth in the 10-team meet. The top six places were scored in each event.

The Redskins scored three other event wins Friday.

Bourne, Kelsey Hicks and Klopfenstein combined to sweep the throws events, finishing first in shot put. Bourne (34-11) was third overall, while Hicks (33-8.75) was sixth.

Megan Smith, Taylor Fisher, Taylor Goulet and Sydni Turner won the 4x100-meter shuttle hurdle with a time of 1 minute, 10.75 seconds.

With a total of 22 feet, Sidney Sutton (9-0), Ellie Horman (7-0) and Hannah Engle (6-0) combined to win the pole vault relay. Sutton’s vault was third overall in the meet.

Wapakoneta had two runner-up finishes in customary relay events.

Wapak’s distance medley relay team — Sutton (1,200), Fisher (400), Griner (800) and Zofkie (1,600) — also finished second with a time of 13:31.62.

The Redskins will next compete Tuesday in another home event during a tri-meet against Lima Senior and Waynesfield-Goshen, which will begin at 5 p.m.
