The Wapakoneta Redskins remained unbeaten Wednesday with a 4-1 win over the Findlay Trojans in non-league varsity girls tennis action at the Wapakoneta Rotary Courts.

Wapak improved to 14-0 overall with Wednesday’s win.

Playing for the first time this season in the first singles slot, Wapak’s Allie Zofkie defeated Findlay’s Savannah Hosey, 6-1, 7-5, in a matchup of two freshmen.

Wapak’s usual first singles player, Kaitlin Snider, earned a 6-2, 6-0, win over Camryn Hessling at second doubles.

“Kaitlin was sick. She wasn’t 100 percent. I could have probably played her at first singles, but it worked out OK,” Wapak varsity coach Mike Klock said. “Allie played really well, too. Findlay’s freshman is really good.”

Rachel Roberts blanked Rachelle Crow, 6-0, 6-0, in the third singles match.

Zofkie and Roberts each remained undefeated in singles play this season.

Findlay’s lone win Wednesday came in the first doubles match, as Erin Bosse and Emma Miller downed Kiersten Wellons and Chelsea Myers, 6-2, 6-4.

The second doubles match went three sets, with Wapak’s Carly Buzzard and Amanda Sims winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-1, against Corrine Hoffman and Jenna Burget II.

Findlay dropped to 4-11 overall after Wednesday’s loss.

Klock said the Trojans play in a tough league, the Three Rivers Athletic Conference, with some good league opponents.

Findlay’s lineup Wednesday also consisted of all underclassmen.

Klock said Monday after his team’s Western Buckeye League finale against Van Wert that entering

Wednesday he would be thrilled with a win over Findlay.

“This has been a fantastic year,” Klock said. “I knew if we could get by Findlay we could run the table. It was a big win.”

Wapak will face Findlay and other TRAC schools at sectionals later this fall.

The Redskins have a non-league match tonight against the Sidney Yellow Jackets in Sidney.
