Wapak grad in run for state rep

March 17, 2014

Wapakoneta resident Brett Eley has announced that he will be running for Ohio State Representative for the 82nd district as a Republican candidate and will challenge incumbent Tony Burkley (R-Paulding) in the primary election of the Ohio General Assembly on May 6.

The 82nd district is made up Van Wert, Paulding and Defiance counties, along with a part of Auglaize County that includes Wapakoneta.

The 27-year-old Eley was a 2005 graduate of Wapakoneta High School. From there, he went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s in public administration from Ohio University. He graduated in 2011, and decided to attend law school. After one year, he decided he would rather run for public office.

“I felt like I could serve more people in different areas than just law,” Eley said. “In the end, I decided running for office was something worth doing. I wouldn’t be doing it if I didn’t think I could help people in the district and the state.”
