Waynesfield-Goshen first-year varsity coach Caitlin Klima said Monday was the best her team had played all season, and her players said it’s the best the program has played in a while.

The W-G Tigers lost a close 3-1 match to the Jefferson Wildcats on Monday in a non-league varsity volleyball match in Delphos, as Jefferson claimed the match win by scores of 25-18, 25-23, 21-25 and 25-15.

W-G is still winless this season through three matches.

“We could have won but Delphos was tough and we hung there well,” Kllma said. “We really stepped it up tonight. We did well as a team. We had everything together. It’s the best they’ve played so far.”

W-G had a real chance to win Game 2 and pulled out a win in Game 3, but the team fell behind early in Game 4 and never recovered.

“They were upset they lost. They wanted to go five games. When they started getting behind in the fourth, they got down on themselves,” Klima said about her players. “They said it’s the best we played in a long time. We had a good match tonight. We’ve got to keep going and keep working hard.”

W-G will host Ridgemont at home Thursday in a tri-match that begins with freshmen at 5 p.m., followed by the junior varsity and varsity.
