Vet director resigns

May 2, 2012

Pat Krendl

After four months on the job, the new director for the Auglaize County Veterans Services Commission has submitted his resignation.

Pat Krendl, who officially took over the post the first week of January, submitted his resignation letter April 23 informing Veterans Services Commission Board members of his decision, effective the same day.

Board President Jack Kuffner confirmed Krendl’s decision to step down Tuesday night in a telephone call. He said he was unaware of any more details other than what was available in the letter and had just learned of the resignation.

Krendl’s letter read, “I regret to inform the Auglaize County Veterans Service Commission of my resignation as director, effective April 23, 2012. I’ve been informed that my service-connected disabilities have gotten worse over the past months and I feel it to be in the best interest of myself and the veterans of Auglaize County that I step aside. It has been a privilege to work with the commissioners and staff; please offer my apologies and sincere appreciation for what they do.”

Veterans Services Commission Board member Cynthia Preston said she had no other information available other than what Krendl stated in the letter.

Krendl retired as a first sergeant in 2008. He served in Somalia in 1991 and in both Gulf Wars in 1993 and 2006-2007. He was in charge of a company of 149 soldiers. He served in the armed services for 25 years.

Krendl, who was originally from Delphos, relocated to rural Wapakoneta when he accepted the new post. He began working at the Veterans Services Commissions Office on Dec. 5 before officially being installed as director in January.
