A handful of people have been spreading the word recently about the Heritage Trails Park District’s proposed 0.6 mill levy. But to fully understand the issue, one has to look at the district and what it has accomplished.
The district was established on November 4, 1996, as a separate political subdivision of the county and state and operates much as any public health district or library district.
The district is under the direction of a Board of Commissioners, comprised of three citizens who serve three-year terms without compensation. Board members are appointed by the Probate Court Judge of Auglaize County. Current board members are: Jim Heinrich, Greg Myers and Dave Stilwell.
The district also has an executive director, Allison Brady, who oversees the day-to-day operation of the district.
Since its establishment, the district has conducted three projects that are key to its future.
