TENNIS: Klock advances to WBL semis

LIMA — Wapakoneta Redskins senior Makenzie Klock advanced to the semifinal round of the Western Buckeye League varsity girls tennis tournament with a win Thursday at the University of Northwestern Ohio courts.
Playing first singles, Klock bumped off No. 5 seed Mariah Krugh of St. Marys in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2 in their quarterfinal match.
Klock advances to face Shawnee’s Lauren Rovner, the top seed in first singles, in the semifinals. Semi-final play starts Saturday at 9 a.m.
In second singles on Thursday, Wapak’s Shelby Gillespie lost her first-round match to third seed Alex Spencer of St. Marys 6-1, 6-3.
Annie Harrod dropped her first-round match to fourth seed Katie Etter of Van Wert 6-2, 6-0 in third singles.
In first doubles, Katie Martin and Kiersten Wellons won their first-round match against Kenton 6-0, 6-0. They lost in the quarter-finals to No. 2 seed Van Wert 6-1, 6-0.
And in second doubles, Chloe Veit and Carly Buzzard fell to the fourth-seeded team from Ottawa-Glandorf in the first round, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.
