Kim Lee, co-owner of LouAnn’s Tea sPot & Gifts, received her inspiration to open the business from a much younger family member.
Lee promised her young niece, Jana Metz, a tea party for her birthday. Lee took her niece and her mother to Eleanor’s Tea Cottage in Troy. The idea for a similar-type business immediately began to form with Lee after the trip.
Lee asked her husband’s aunt, LouAnn Egbert, if she wanted to form a partnership. As a result, the pair opened LuAnn’s on Dec. 4.
“All items are prepared on-site from scratch,” Lee said. “Our menu will change monthly.”
The shop will specialize in bakery items, soups, salads, sandwiches and deserts. They will also carry tea and accessories from Mountain Rose Herbs.
Both owners wanted to provide a quality service while protecting the environment.
“All teas and herbal tinctures are made with organic ingredients,” Lee said. “All teas are kosher and fair trade.”
All of the bagged teas are bagged in compostable, biodegradable tea bags. All of the boxed teas are packaged in earth-friendly containers.
Most of the waste generated at the tea shop is recycled or saved for composting.
The gift room is full of specialty items from local vendors, including candles, soaps, jewelry, antiques and fishing lures. There is also a variety of unique teapots and other tea-themed merchandise.
LouAnn’s is open from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday featuring continental breakfast items, coffee and tea for carry-out.
The dining room is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and will feature, scones, Devonshire cream, sandwiches, soup, salad and desert. A kid’s menu is also available.
Reservations are suggested due to limited seating but walk-ins are also welcome. The dining room may also be reserved for parties of 15 or more for weekend or evening hours for gatherings such as birthdays, bridal or baby showers, engagement and rehearsal parties, and community organizations.
