Switch proves right for retiring teacher

July 8, 2013

Luanne Powell

BOTKINS — Luanne Powell did not originally decide to go into the educational field when she began her post-high school education. Early on, she made the switch.

Now, 30 years later, the last kindergarten child saw the benefits of that decision.

Powell’s retirement became effective the end of the 2012-13 school year, after 25 years at Botkins. Prior to that, she taught four years in the Waynesfield-Goshen School  system and one year in the New Knoxville School system.

“After teaching kindergarten the first year I knew it was what I wanted to do,” Powell said.

Powell said it was a rewarding career at that level because children have such enthusiasm for learning and the big smiles on their faces every day.
