February 14, 2012

LIMA — Nine Wapakoneta Redskins varsity swimmers, seven of them in multiple events, advanced to the Division II district meet thanks to their performances in the sectional meet Saturday at the Lima Family YMCA.

The district meet will be held Friday at Bowling Green State University.

Senior Ryan Kremer led the way for the Redskins.  Kremer won the 100 backstroke and is seeded sixth in that event.  He took second in the 100 butterfly, earning the No. 2 seed.

Freshman Josie Miller posted personal-best times in both of her events.  She is seeded third in the 50 freestyle after placing second in her sectional.  She was fifth in the 100 freestyle and picked up the 10th seed.

Other qualifiers include juniors Nate Hager swimming the 50 and 100 freestyle, Brandon Christler in the 50 freestyle, Ryan Greve in the 100 breaststroke, and sophomore Taylor Law in the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly.

Greve, Kremer, Hager and Christler will also be swimming in the 200 medley and free relays, where they are seeded eighth and seventh, respectively.

Law, Miller, Stephanie Kessen and Taylor Hager qualified in the 200 freestyle relay, seeded 11th.

Haley Buchanan will join Law, Miller and Kessen as the 10th seed in the 400 freestyle relay.

At the sectional meet, the girls placed fourth out of 15 teams and the boys placed fifth out of 13 teams.
