Suspect flees police at Cashland

July 11, 2014

An intruder was seen inside of Cashland, 1254 Bellefontaine St., Wapakoneta, after an alarm alerted Wapakoneta Police at 4:50 a.m. today.

On officer’s arrival, a subject was observed inside the business, after which officers surrounded the building and made entry with the department’s K-9. No one was located inside.

According to a press release, police believe the suspect fled out the back door before the business was surrounded.

The Auglaize County Sheriff’s K-9 conducted a track from the rear of the business, which led officers north, and later lost the track a block away, where officials believe the suspect fled in a car.

“We believe entry to the business was made through the air conditioner opening on the roof of the business,” Wapakoneta Police Chief Russel Hunlock said in the press release. “At this time we are unsure how many suspects are involved and what if anything was taken.”

Hunlock said the case remains under investigation, as officers remain on the scene.

Assisting police was the sheriff’s office, Cridersville Police Officers and the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The Wapakoneta Fire Department assisted with getting officers on the roof of the business.
