Spencer wins bid for county commissioner

Doug Spencer will remain your Auglaize County commissioner.

The incumbent beat out challenger Pat McGowan, the sitting mayor of St. Marys, in the Republican Primary on Tuesday night, claiming 70.1 percent (4,387) of the vote to McGowan's 29.9 percent (1,871).

This will be Spencer's fourth term as a commissioner, rejoining Don Regula and John Bergman, and while he's looking forward to retaining his spot, he's also glad that the election is now behind him.

"I'm ecstatic and relieved," Spencer said on Tuesday night. "It's been a long couple of months with the process. But I've always told my kids, competition makes you better, and I really believe that to be true here."
