After a successful finish to the 2012 shooting season, local Glenn Zimmerman is preparing for the Junior Olympics in Pistol Shooing in April.
The Junior Olympics competition are held at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Zimmerman finished off his shooting season at Ohio State, at the OSU Junior Olympic qualifying match on December 22.
Zimmerman placed first in the .22 caliber sport pistol competition.
Zimmerman also placed third in the air pistol competition.
Glenn, currently a junior at Monclova Christian Academy near Toledo, Ohio, got his start shooting in Auglaize County at the 4H shooting club. There, he embraced the sport and made it his passion.
He has been shooting the last four years at the NRA Junior Pistol Camp at Camp Perry.
He first competed at the Ohio State Junior Olympic Qualifier at the age of 14.
He placed third in the air pistol and .22 caliber sport pistol when he was 14.
This year, he improved to first in the .22 caliber sport pistol category, booking his trip to Colorado.
Zimmerman has been shooting pistols since the age of 10, and hopes one day to shoot at the collegiate level.
Zimmerman has been competing at matches throughout the state for a couple years now at Camp Perry, Oak Harbor, Ohio State and Akron-Canton.
He is a member of the Ohio Rifle and Pistol Association (ORPA) shooting team, he continues to train at Shooters of Maumee and the monthly air pistol matches at Camp Perry.
OSU Pistol coach James Sweeney has expressed an interest in Zimmerman’s future. Zimmerman hopes he can become part of the OSU Shooting team when he graduates high school in 2014.
