A local seventh-grader has a passion for cars.

In his spare time, Wapakoneta Middle School student Jerry Wright can be driving his RC cars.

“I do competitions with them,” Wright said of the remote control cars. “Dad’s Toy Shop holds a ‘Fun Run’ and I go there every summer.”

Wright said at these competitions, the hobbyists drive their cars around and see whose car can jump the highest.

Wright, who has a total of five RC cars, races them outside.

In addition, watching NASCAR and IndyCar are two of Wright’s favorite things to watch on television.

When Wright grows up, he plans to attend college to either study to be a doctor or to be a mechanic.

“I would want to be a doctor to help people and I like science,” Wright said, “and I would want to be a mechanic because I love working on cars.”

Wright spends time working on cars in his father’s garage.

The son of Dottie Wright and Jeff Wright considers himself an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan, as he enjoys watching their football games, along with Columbus Crew soccer games.

Visiting his grandmother, Maxine Wright, is another thing Wright enjoys to do in his spare time when he is not at school.

“We play cards and ride bikes, and I just like spending time with her,” Wright said.

In school, Wright said his favorite subject is math.

“I just enjoy it because I’m wanting to know how to use money wisely,” Wright said.

Currently, his math teacher, Nancy Rossman, is teaching his class how to add and subtract decimals.

Another favorite subject for the 13-year-old is reading.

“I like to read in my spare time,” Wright said.

Wright’s favorite type of books to read is mystery.

Art is one of Wright’s favorite creative pastimes, as he enjoys the subject.

“I like it because you get to express your feelings,” Wright said.

Currently his class is working on painting self-portraits.

During his homeroom time, Wright works in the office and helps the secretaries and the principal with different assignments and tasks.

“I volunteered to do it,” Wright said.

Winter is a favorite season for Wright, as snowmobiling is one of Wright’s favorite winter holidays.

“I like to go snowmobiling with my uncles,” Wright said. “We got to do it twice this season.”

Wright said he goes up to his uncle’s house in Columbus to snowmobile.

Wright has two dogs, an Australian German shepherd named Charlie and a Jack Russell rat terrier named Scoobie.
