No. 1 Coldwater (11-0) vs. West Liberty Salem (11-0)
The state’s top-ranked Coldwater Cavaliers play unbeaten West Liberty Salem at Alexander Field on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
The two teams are meeting for the first time.
West Liberty Salem, a member of the Ohio Heritage Conference, won a Week 11 showdown between unbeatens. The Tigers emerged with a 28-14 victory over Dayton Christian after rushing for 295 yards. Quarterback Riley Sims rushed for 144 yards in the win.
West Liberty Salem averages 46.5 points per game and gives up 12.6 points per game.
The Cavaliers smothered Miami East 42-7 last Friday at Cavalier Stadium.
Coldwater dominates opponents in the first half. The Cavs have outscored opponents 294-21 in the first half this season. The starting defense has not given up a rushing touchdown this season.
Coldwater quarterback Austin Bruns, who was named the offensive player of the year in the MAC last week, has now thrown 28 touchdown passes while tossing just three interceptions, and the big Cavalier quarterback is now completing 74 percent of his passes.
Coldwater is 13-4 in Week 12 playoff games in program history, Coldwater stat man Chris Cron reported this week.
LCC (11-0) vs. Liberty-Benton (10-1)
At Harmon Field, Wapak
Last year Liberty-Benton stunned the No. 1-ranked T-Birds in a playoff opener. The two teams meet again on Friday night at Wapakoneta’s Harmon Field. Liberty-Benton muscled past Liberty Center, 16-7, last week. The Eagles’ only loss this season was in overtime to McComb in Week 3. LCC rolled to a 42-14 win over Western Reserve behind 231 yards passing by Colin Stolly and 117 yards rushing by Kalito Lasenby.View more articles in:
