Redskins shut out Elida in WBL match

The Wapakoneta Redskins shut out the Elida Bulldogs, 5-0, in a Western Buckeye League varsity girls tennis match Thursday in Elida.

Wapak won four of the five matches in three sets, while Kaitlin Snider rallied from a dropped first set to beat C’era Savage in first singles, 3-6, 6-2, 6-0.

Allie Zofkie won second singles for Wapak over Meredith Lize, 6-3, 6-0.

In third singles, Rachel Roberts won all 12 sets against Haley Hurst to notch a 6-0, 6-0 win.

Kiersten Wellons and Chelsea Myers handled first doubles for Wapak, topping Elizabeth White and Ashley Fay, 6-4, 6-1.

At second doubles, Carly Buzzard and Mackenzie Kaverman beat Summer Slusher and Jenna Mekolites, 6-1, 6-4.

Wapak’s win Thursday gave the team a 4-0 overall record and a 2-0 start in the WBL this season.

The Redskins will return the courts starting at 8:30 a.m. Saturday in the Lima City Invitational at the Collett Street Courts in Lima.
